
Encourged by the success of last year’s Blade Runner Ultimate Collector’s Edition, Warner Home Video will be issuing a total of 25 gift sets this fall. In all, gift sets have seen a 26% growth in the past year according to Warner.
The gift sets will be released for both DVD and Blu-ray in the final four months of this year and cost between $40 to $200. Each collector’s set will be housed in the usual packaging and include picture books, cards, and other memorabilia.
Here are details on the gift sets we know about so far:
- I Am Legend - along with the deluxe packaging, it will include new filmmaker commentary, deleted scenes, “iconic” premium collectible items and more.
- Batman Begins - will include lenticular motion art, a 32-page booklet that includes an all-new DC Comics adaption of The Dark Knight prologue, exclusive photos, script pages, and more.
- JFK - will be released via Warner’s Digibook packaging.
- Casablanca - includes 40 minutes of special features, 2 feature-length commentaries, branded travel-related collectibles, and a photo book.
- A Christmas Story - will come with a ‘holiday starter kit’, including cookie cutters.

HP is giving it’s Pavilion DV Series consumer laptop line a face-lift for the first time since 2006. The entire line features Blu-ray drives, HD Tuners, webcams, fingerprint readers and built-in 3G internet which should appease feature hungry consumers. The black and white notebooks will all have invisible “magic chrome” controls that light up and become fully interactive upon power up.
The newly redesigned line will include three models, the dv4, dv5, and dv7 which come with 14.1″, 15.4″, and 17″ displays respectively. All three will feature an AMD or Intel option and come with Windows Vista with no option for Windows XP announced at this time.
The dv4 will offer up to a maximum 320GB hard drive and 3 USB ports. Its base price will be from $800 (AMD) to $1000 (Intel). The dv5 will have 4 USB ports, an NVIDIA graphics card, with a base price of $700 (AMD) to $900 (Intel). Lastly, the dv7 will have multi-channel audio with subwoofer, 4 USBs, ATI and NVIDIA graphics cards, with a hard drive up to 640GB. The base price will start at $950 (AMD) to $1230 (Intel).
The dv5 will be released this month, the dv7 following in July, and the dv4 in September.

Acer has just announced the availability of the Blu-ray fitted, fully HD capable Aspire Gemstone Blue notebook series. Included in this series is the Aspire 8920 with a monstrous 18.4-inch (1920 X 1080) screen to watch movies on. Under the hood you’ll find an Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 processor, up to 640GB of hard drive capacity, memory card reader, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NVIDIA GeForce 9650M GS discrete graphics.
The other laptop in the series is the 16-inch (1920 X 1080) Aspire 6920 which features an Intel Core 2 Duo T9500 processor, up to 320GB of hard drive capacity, memory card reader, 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and NVIDIA GeForce 9500M GS discrete graphics.
Both laptops include the 2nd generation Dolby Home Theater technology and up to 5 integrated speakers for 5.1 surround sound output. The Gemstone Blue laptops ship with Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate or Home Premium pre-installed.
Available now at Acer authorized resellers and select retailer in the United States. The Aspire 8920 starts at $1300 and the Aspire 6920 at $850 for basic configurations.
