Blockbuster CEO to Studios: More copies of Blu-ray films needed

Now that the Blu-ray movement is going forward full force, Blockbuster is looking to push the format further. Blockbuster CEO, Jim Keyes, is demanding that studios provide them with more copies of Blu-ray films because it is the only way the format will succeed. Keyes stated, “Blu-ray Disc represents a classic lifecycle extender. It represents a good continuation at least for some period of time – five years, 10 years.”
He is aware of the threat digital downloads poses to Blu-ray. “We think the rental model can help Blu-ray,” said Keyes at the Home Media Expo in Las Vegas. “If we’re slow in doing this, all it does is stimulate demand for digital.”
Seeing as how Blu-ray sales are moving forward at a brisk pace, we don’t see digital downloads as in immediate threat. In any case, it’s good to see Blockbuster making an effort to push Blu.
