BD Live interactivity a priority for Disney

Posted in Blu-ray News

Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray

Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment is going to support web-enabled BD Live interactivity with a publicity campaign aimed at educating families following its October 7 Blu-ray Disc release of Sleeping Beauty. At a launch party Monday, studio president Bob Chapek said that all upcoming Disney Blu-ray releases would include BD Live elements, which is likely to be the same for Pixar titles. “We are making our entrance grand,” Chapek said of the studio’s BD Live launch. “Every subsequent Disney title will have BD Live. This may push the studios to reach new heights that have never been before imagined.”

It’s good to see a major studio such as Disney going so far as to educate people on Blu-ray and BD-Live features. Hopefully it’ll clear up some confusion for those that still don’t have an idea of what Blu-ray is and what it can offer.

Blu-ray’s touch reawakens ‘Sleeping Beauty’

Posted in Blu-ray Upcoming Releases

Sleeping Beauty Blu-ray

Disney is slated to release ‘Sleeping Beauty’ as its first Blu-ray title while bringing a brand new experience to viewers this October. Using BD Live technology, viewers will be able to put in their disc and see a customized version of the castle as part of the menu. The sky however, will reflect real time weather conditions from the viewer’s hometown. They’ll be able to chat with friends while watching the movie and even be able to send video messages inserted into the movie and delivered to friends through a ‘movie mail’ feature. Disney hopes to ‘revolutionize the way people interact with and view movies’ with ‘Sleeping Beauty’. With all these features made possible through Profile 2.0, it looks like Disney is pulling all the stops to deliver a one of a kind experience.
