German optical disc equipment manufacturer, Singulus, Monday said that the Blu-ray format is being adopted faster than DVD was 11 years ago. Singulus received orders for 21 Blu-ray dual-layer machines in the first quarter of this year, figures that put it ahead of the pace of its predecessor. Chief Financial Officer Stefan Baustert said, “This means that the orders for Blu-ray in the first year of the dual layer technology already by far exceeded the volume at the start of the DVD eleven years ago with 17 machines.” As more content is released and manufacturers adopt the format, things should look bright for Blu-ray.
