Toshiba: No Blu-ray laptops

In a surprising move, the Toshiba Europe CEO, announced that the company is not looking to add Blu-ray capabilities to its laptops. The HD-DVD creator, released information on a new line of laptops, none of which contain a high-definition drive. Instead the laptops support upscaling of standard DVDs only. When asked about the omission of Blu-ray support, Alan Thompson, CEO for Toshiba Europe said, “At this present time we are not using Blu-ray. Blu-ray is just one of many ways that you can get HD content and is not required for accessing HD content.”
We’re wondering how long Toshiba is going to put its money on it’s ‘new’ upconverting technology until it goes Blu. In the meantime, it’ll bets are on as to who gives in to Blu-ray first; Toshiba or Microsoft.
