Corel’s WinDVD adds BD-R 1.1 and BD-RE 2.1 playback certification

Corel has just received BD-R 1.1 and BD-RE 2.1 certification for Blu-ray(R) recordable and re-recordable media for their WinDVD video playback software. The certification means that Corel WinDVD has passed “the stringent standards and guidelines as set by the Blu-ray Disc Association to ensure the best possible user experience.” This will allow users to play back Blu-ray recordable and re-recordable discs including those that have been recorded with the latest-generation Blu-ray Disc recorders. In addition, WinDVD can use H.264 and VC-1 for encoding making it faster and easier for users to record content.
Availability is limited to OEMs right now while consumers will have to wait until early 2009.
